Basic DSP

Mike DeFreece - Biamp

Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has now become the standard method of the control and optimization of sounds systems today.  Even smaller sound systems can benefit from very cost effective DSP units that save money and rack space while providing increased performance and flexibility.  In this course, we will demonstrate the basics of DSP, including how to maximize your sound system by using the right signal processing.  We will also explore the many advantages that DSP bring, including greater flexibility and the ability to change how your sound system operates on the fly.  Not only can your DSP be the heart and soul for your loudspeaker processing, it can also serve as an automatic microphone mixer for events such as weddings and funerals when a system operator may not be available.  The ability to network DSP units also means you can control your sound system from multiple locations, even remote locations if necessary.  We will explore various remote control options, including tactic interfaces and computer interfaces.  We will also talk about industry-standard methods of networking and digital signal transport over standard category 5 network cabling that allows you to share DSP resources and audio across a campus.

Fundamentals of Loudspeaker Powering & Calibration

I Need An Adapter

Chuck Walthall - Walthall & Associates

Cables and connectors can cause more issues in an audio system than feedback. Each type of cable (two) and connector (four) has specific purposes. When improperly configured with adaptors, issues arise. This course details the basic cable and connector types and their role in the audio system signal path. Signal types and impedance are elements that will be explored as well; they are critical elements of a system configuration.

Introducing "Same Page"

Daniel Maggart - Corevalus

Integrating technology with worship team, A/V team, pastor and worship leader calls for considerable advanced planning to guarantee that all aspects of the worship service are properly coordinated.  This advanced planning, however, leads to more and more time away from ministry and more time spent on music management and technology issues. Find out how SamePage is revolutionizing  worship by providing more time for ministry and less time on planning and preparation.

Loudspeaker Design for Music & the Spoken Word

Blair McNair - Consultant

Maximizing the Video Projection in a House of Worship Environment

Chuck Collins - Digital Projection

When evaluating projection products, much emphasis is often placed on key specifications such as brightness (lumens) and contrast (black level).  These specifications present the performance parameters that relate to the dynamic range the projector is capable of producing in a “black room” environment.  Although vitally important, they are but a component of the equation necessary to define the actual dynamic range the system will produce when installed in House of Worship.

In this workshop we will explore, the different technologies available today and those coming tomorrow. We will discuss projector specifications including resolution as well as the other components to consider when implementing a projection display in your House of Worship.

This course explores the basic fundamentals of signal path and builds an understanding thereof.

Sound, Acoustics, Loudspeakers, & The Listening Experience

R Bob Adams - SLS

What is really heard when a person listens?  Why is some sound too loud, yet still not understandable?  What must be considered to properly “fix” bad sound?  This class examines the relationship of the room to noise in the room to the system, and how they each affect what is heard by the listener.  This class is an absolute MUST for everyone involved with music, worship, or sound.

What Are We Doing Here?

Blair McNair - Consultant

Why do we do the things we do in the technical ministry of our churches?  What is our motivation and purpose?  Who are we doing this for?  Are all of these musicians out of their minds?  These are some of the questions all of have asked ourselves at one time or another.  It is so very important that we have a clear understanding of our role and purpose within the leadership of the church if we are to avoid burnout and devastation.  What lies in the balance is effective communications to the lost who come into our congregations seeking God and our own personal relationship with Him.  Come and explore ways to avoid becoming crispy crunchy finger food for the devil and how to maximize the potential of your ministry.
