10 Best Uses of Video in a Worship Service

Jesse Lewis / Worship Films

There are a number of great ways to use video in a worship service.  This class will look at some of the best.  We will also see many examples of resources that are available from today's top Christian producers.

Acoustics in Houses of Worship

Chuck Walthall - Consultant

This course covers the basic fundamentals of sound, how we hear and what role a room's acoustical properties play when listening to and mixing audio. One will quickly note the three are directly related and affect one another. Upon completion of the session, the learner will have a better understanding of why things sound they way they sound and how the acoustics of the space play a part. From this point, evaluations can be made and solutions can be developed to render a better sounding space and audio reinforcement system.

Advanced Processing Tips & Tricks: Optimizing Your Sound System

        Mike DeFreece - Biamp

Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has now become the standard method of the control and optimization for sounds systems.  In this course, we will explore and demonstrate effective methods for getting the most out of your sound system using advanced DSP devices.  Listen as we make changes in real time to both live and recorded program material and learn what each of the settings inside the DSP really does.  We will equip you to tackle some of the toughest problems you will face in today's audio systems.  Topics covered will include how to setup proper gain structure, how to use dynamics processing to your advantage, and how to properly use each type of equalizer.  We will also explore the concept of storing and recalling multiple presets to change the sound system on the fly.  The techniques learned in this class will be applicable to any live sound operator or recording engineer.

Amplifiers and How To Control Them

DSP - Demystifying the Black Box

Tom Knesel - Ashly

Most modern sound systems today are controlled by a "black box" DSP or system controller. These are typically set up and configured by the Installation Contractor often with little or no explanation or instruction. We'll demystify the DSP by taking a look at the various features and functions available in modern DSP units and explore how to use them in real world settings. Topics will include filters, EQ, crossovers, dynamics and delay as well as common implementations and application examples including digital audio connections via CobraNet. Also included are applications for Matrix Processors  in modern worship systems (especially where non-trained operators are to be involved in the use and operation of the audio system) and DSP integrated into power amplifiers.

Maximizing the Video Projection in a HOW Environment

Richard Hill - Digital Projection

When evaluating projection products, much emphasis is often placed on key specifications such as brightness (lumens) and contrast (black level).  These specifications present the performance parameters that relate to the dynamic range the projector is capable of producing in a “black room” environment.  Although vitally important, they are but a component of the equation necessary to define the actual dynamic range the system will produce when installed in House of Worship.

In this workshop we will explore, the different technologies available today and those coming tomorrow. We will discuss projector specifications including resolution as well as the other components to consider when implementing a projection display in your House of Worship.

What Are We Doing Here?

Blair McNair - Consultant

Why do we do the things we do in the technical ministry of our churches?  What is our motivation and purpose?  Who are we doing this for?  Are all of these musicians out of their minds?  These are some of the questions all of have asked ourselves at one time or another.  It is so very important that we have a clear understanding of our role and purpose within the leadership of the church if we are to avoid burnout and devastation.  What lies in the balance is effective communications to the lost who come into our congregations seeking God and our own personal relationship with Him.  Come and explore ways to avoid becoming crispy crunchy finger food for the devil and how to maximize the potential of your ministry.
